Checkups & Cleanings
Even patients who brush and floss diligently may fall victim to oral health problems that aren’t easily recognizable to an untrained eye. That’s where a professional team like ours comes in! Attending routine evaluations and cleanings every six months (or twice each year) is absolutely vital for the lifelong maintenance of your smile. We will be as comprehensive as possible, carefully inspecting the surface of each tooth, your soft tissue, jaw, and bite for any signs of periodontal disease or oral cancer, existing restorations, and much more with the essential assistance of digital X-ray technology.
Hygiene appointments are very beneficial as well allowing our experienced team members to remove dangerous plaque and tartar from surfaces in your mouth and clean away minor stains. You’ll be able to leave that day with a smile that’s healthier and nicely polished as well. Additionally, these regular checkups help our team to prevent gum disease. This common oral health issue is not only detrimental to patients’ health, but may have profound impact on overall health. Research has connected untreated gum disease to numerous chronic and systemic illnesses including heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy complications, and others that have yet to be revealed. In addition to carefully brushing and flossing teeth every day, visiting our team two times each year is the best way to ensure oral and overall health remain intact. Find out more about how checkups can transform your whole body health at your next appointment.
Dental sealants are typically recommended for children who are still learning to properly care for their teeth and adults who struggle with dentition that’s excessively sensitive to decay. This simple, painless preventive service is designed to “seal” the chewing grooves on certain teeth (typically back molars), making it more difficult for food particles and bacteria to accumulate there and create damaging cavities over time.
Are any of the following symptoms familiar to you?
- Worn enamel/injured teeth with no known cause
- Increased tooth sensitivity over time
- Discomfort that’s located in the jaw, face, and ears
- Constant, severe headaches
If so, you may be struggling with a common health condition known as bruxism (habitual teeth grinding), which often plagues adults who experience considerable amounts of daily stress. Over time, untreated bruxism can lead to facial pain, dental damage, and even the development of debilitating TMJ disorder. At Dental Innovations, our goal is to help patients overcome these conditions and regain the quality of life they deserve through personalized therapy options. We often recommend an oral appliance (also known as a “nightguard”) that patients are instructed to wear while sleeping; this device can provide valuable assistance in repositioning the jaw’s resting position and minimizing the effects of teeth grinding.
Oral Cancer Screenings
Oral cancer may not be as widely discussed in the dentist’s office as cavities and gum disease, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a serious concern – in fact, nearly half of patients diagnosed this year with the disease won’t go on to survive more than five years. This happens because oral cancer often isn’t correctly identified until it’s already reached advanced stages. Our doctors and specialists are dedicated to doing their part in reducing these statistics by providing oral cancer screenings as an essential part of routine appointments. We’ll identify any potentially cancerous symptoms present in your mouth at their earliest stages of development, and our oral surgeon, Dr. Norman Kurtzman, can perform a biopsy if needed to confirm your condition.
Gum Disease Treatment
Gum disease (also known as periodontal disease) is the number one cause of tooth loss among adults today, as well as one of the most common health problems in the world. While its common symptoms (bleeding gums, red/puffy soft oral tissue) may seem relatively mild at first, untreated cases quickly grow out of control, leading to severe and destructive infection. If we determine that you’re suffering from gum disease during a routine periodontal evaluation, several treatment options are available for restoring health to your smile including scaling and root planing, antibiotic therapy, and BIOLASE soft tissue laser therapy. Our in-house periodontist Dr. Michael Vener is available for more severe cases.
Fluoride is a natural mineral found in several food and water sources, and research has suggested that its presence in a patient’s diet can have significant positive effects on the strength and health of their teeth. If you or your loved ones aren’t receiving enough fluoride, our team may recommend additional applications in our office or the routine use of fluoridated toothpaste to better invigorate your smile.
We are happy to offer comprehensive dental services for patients of all ages and that includes kids. In most cases, we’re able to treat children for their entire lives from the eruption of their first tooth to the very last. We offer a number of treatments specifically geared toward children like dental sealants and fluoride treatments, but our main goal is the same for kids and adults. We partner with young people to develop and maintain optimal oral health for a lifetime.
